| OPEN LETTER TO SUMMIT COUNTY EXECUTIVE, JAMES B. McCARTHY (June 27, 2007) | ||||
| Dear Mr. James McCarthy,
Above please view the intake photo (June 11, 2007) of a puppy Heaven Can Wait rescued from the Summit County Animal Control Facility June 22, 2007. We noticed that his physical condition steadily declined while in the facility. We called and emailed you, your administrative assistant Jill Skapin, Law Director Karen Doty, and Animal Control Director Chrissy Fatheree about taking the puppy out, beginning rehabilitation, and returning it for it's neuter. You flatly said "no". Jill Skapin said no. Karen Doty said no. And, Chrissy Fatheree said no. All were based on Heaven Can Wait not having a contract, which was requested from Karen Doty three weeks ago, to no avail. This puppy was made to endure five more days at the Summit County Animal Control Facility to wait for a neuter. All the while, further physically declining. This had to be very apparent to the staff at the Summit County Animal Control Facility. We have tried diligently to address the early release/return issue, but you and your staff appear more concerned with building obstacles than the welfare of the animals at the Summit County Animal Control Facility. I am sure that you have alot of anger and animosity towards groups that exposed the past atrocities, which you and your staff ignored, But, it is very apparent that there are currently very serious issues regarding neglect, should you not release, for medical care, sickly animals to Federal and State recognized reputable rescue groups, just because contracts are not issued. In addition, while it is wonderful that animals are spayed/neutered prior to release, the delay of several days to over a week is unacceptable. Following are photos of the puppy taken June 26, 2007, the day it was released into our care. Criminal! Cordially, Heather Nagel Executive Director Heaven Can Wait
